Wow, Term 2 is nearly ready to kick off

The holidays are nearly over and I hope everyone managed to fit in some fun. I have certainly had a refreshing break and loved my trip down to Queenstown, Arrowtown and Cromwell. We loved competing at Highlands Motorsport Park and can’t wait to return next year. I loved every bit of my hot lap around the circuit.

This term we have lots of events to be a part of. There is a calendar on the classroom notice board to help families know what is coming up. I will endeavor to put reminders in our class notices as well.

Our first events are the Drip, drip, drip ignition set for the first Wednesday. Children will need to wear their house colours. The Tuesday of the second week is our school x country. The postponement day is the Wednesday of that week. Mr. McKenzie  is publishing a notice about the event and that will be shared with families shortly

Our learning for this term…
Writing – we will continue with writing recounts.
We will focus on using connectives in our story writing to help us to share more information. We can achieve this by using words such as “and”, “because”, “then” and “so”

We will learn how to write similes and comparisons.
We will learn to write and include adjectives, describing words in our story writing

Maths – we will continue to develop our number knowledge, and our counting on and counting back skills, while also focusing on measurement.

Reading – all of our different reading groups will continue working on specific group and individual reading goals.

Spelling – this term children in Room 7  will work on two spelling words from their appropriate essential list during class reading time. At this stage the children will not have spelling homework. They will be tested on Thursdays and progress through the essential words. Every child will need a spelling notebook. I am aware that a few children had the little notebooks in their stationery pack. I forgot to make a list when I was in Room 7 today of who still needed a notebook. This week I will let you know if your child needs a notebook and will begin our spelling programme in week 2.

Looking forward to seeing you all on Monday. Everyone now has a new desk position so we will have fun seeing where everyone is now placed.

Room 7 will host the first team assembly for term 2 on Thursday at 2:25pm
